Chita Rivera (born Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero, January 23, 1933, Washington, DC- died January 30, 2024, New York City) began her career in theater after a successful audition to George Balanchine's School of American Ballet. She got her first role on Broadway in 1951 and is known for several original Broadway roles: Anita in West Side Story, Rose in Bye Bye Birdie, and Velma in Chicago.
